Back-to-School Success Starts with Good Vision

As you might have guessed, a lot of learning is accomplished visually. But even with this overt connection between vision and learning, many parents don't realize how profoundly vision problems affect education, and don't include eye exams as part of their child's back to school preparations. It's important to know that because vision in children changes, regular eye and vision care is central to doing well in at school.

Kids have the astounding ability to carry on, despite having a vision problem. It is even more important to monitor the indicators of vision problems as your child progresses through school.

Not having the ability to meet the visual demands of the classroom and school work can noticeably affect their academic performance. Recently developed educational technology, such as interactive whiteboards, can even exaggerate less obvious vision problems. Without adequate vision, kids can be at a disadvantage not only in the classroom, but also mentally, physically and emotionally.

If you're the parent of a child who wears glasses already, now is also a good opportunity to reassess the suitability of his or her current frames and maybe even purchase your child new glasses to start off the new year. If kids don't feel comfortable in their glasses, they probably won't wear them much.

Find a good time to come see us when you're getting your children prepared for their year. We'll do all we can to help our young patients start the new school year with excellent vision.
